Monkery Barn
A conversion of a historic 16th-century barn has been thoughtfully undertaken to create a new and unique dwelling. The architecture is designed in such a way that it effectively blends into the background, with carefully devised details that aim to highlight and bring the existing character of the barn to the forefront.
The internal stone walls have been carefully restored to preserve their historical integrity, while the new sliding windows and doors are thoughtfully recessed. This design choice is made with the specific aim of maintaining the grandeur of the large openings and ensuring that these features do not draw unnecessary attention away from the overall aesthetic of the space.
Any new structures are independent of the existing ones, allowing both to coexist and function alongside each other harmoniously.
The garden was designed in collaboration with William Livingston.
