Set within the beautifully maintained garden of a grade 2 listed house and situated in a designated conservation area, we successfully won consent for a striking copper clad house. The copper chosen for this project is a rich dark brown, which is expected to develop a unique patina and age gracefully over time. The architectural forms of the house draw their inspiration from the historic greenhouses that once existed directly opposite the site, creating a harmonious connection between the past and present.
The house is skillfully constructed using cross-laminated timber (CLT), and impressively, the main superstructure was erected in just four short days. The underside of the timber panels is intentionally left exposed on the interior, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that allows for a beautiful soft light to gracefully filter throughout the home.
The copper panels sit well in their historic setting, as they represent one of the oldest building materials in existence, coupled with contemporary construction techniques that bring a fresh perspective to the architecture. This combination highlights the unique blend of tradition and innovation, making the structure stand out in its surroundings.
